Growing up, I always asked myself this question: “What do I want to be when I grow up?” Many of my friends and classmates already had an answer for this question. They did not hesitate to blurt out ambitious careers, such as “president” or “astronaut.” I did not know what career I wanted until years later, when I realized that what I wanted to do in life was to make a positive difference in my community. I felt that the best way to achieve this goal was to become a teacher. Three factors that contributed to this decision are my strong desire to make a positive change in the world, my delight for teaching others, and the benefits of a teaching career.
The first reason why I want to become a teacher is because I want to make a positive and long-lasting difference in people’s lives. When I was thirteen, I realized that what I wanted to do with my life was to leave a good impact for the following generations. Even at this young age, I knew that this was a very ambitious dream, but I was determined to make it a reality. I thought that if I were to become a teacher, I could be a good role model and influence the generations after me. I could educate and guide them through their academic journey, as well as instill in them traits and etiquettes that will help them prosper in their lives. I would do my best as a teacher to inspire and help my students succeed and grow to have good principles, so when they begin their lives in the real world, my influence will remain with them. By being a teacher, I will be fulfilling my dream in making a positive and lasting impact in my community.
The second reason why I want to become a teacher is because I enjoy teaching others. When I began attending Tae Kwon Do in 2007, my instructors often asked me to assist my classmates and teach them techniques. This also continued when I enrolled in Hapkido in 2011. Since then, I have found teaching enjoyable. By sharing my knowledge with others, I gain a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment myself. This is because I feel proud seeing them succeed using what I taught them. By becoming a teacher, I will be able to pursue my passion of teaching others. I believe teaching students of unique backgrounds and colorful talents would be a challenging, yet fun adventure every day, and that is something I would love to do as a career.
The final reason why I want to become a teacher is because of the many benefits a teaching career can give. One benefit that I really like is the numerous vacations teachers have. Teachers are given a Christmas break, a spring break, and a summer vacation, all while still receiving pay. Being able to work on hands-on activities with students is another benefit of teaching. For an artistic, adventurous person like myself, being able to do hands-on activities with my students would be a very enjoyable part of my job. The final benefit of teaching is opportunity to work with some of the best people in the world: children. Since I began volunteering at PNG Childcare and Learning Center in 2009, I discovered that I worked well with and enjoyed being around children. They are so cheerful and full of energy, and I know that working with them daily would be an amazing experience. Altogether, I would appreciate to have the many benefits that the teaching career provides.
Overall, I believe teaching is the perfect career for me. By becoming a teacher, I will be able to reach my goal of making a positive, long-lasting change in my community. I will also be able to pursue my passion for teaching and receive many benefits, such as paid breaks, a stable work schedule, and the opportunity to work with children. I know that this career choice will be challenging, but I am determined to do my best and to overcome all the obstacles in my journey of becoming a teacher. Now, whenever someone asks me what I want to be in the future, I can proudly say “I want to be a teacher!”
